Is Lake Country actually closer than Kelowna from Vernon?
For most of Vernon, yes. It is roughly twenty-five minutes down Highway 97 to my bench, against forty-five or more to the chain repair counters at Orchard Park. Same highway, shorter drive, and no sales floor waiting at the other end of it.
That surprises people, because the reflex in the North Okanagan is that anything specialised means a trip to Kelowna. For computer repair it does not. Lake Country sits between the two, and coming south to me is the shorter half of that journey from almost anywhere in Vernon.
Do you ship computers out for repair?
No, and that is deliberate. Every repair is done by me, on my bench, in Lake Country. Nothing gets couriered to a depot in another city or province.
This matters in Vernon more than anywhere else I serve, because shipping machines out is the local norm. It is also how a two-day job turns into a two-week one, and why nobody can tell you where your computer actually is when you phone to ask. When your machine is twenty-five minutes away and in the hands of the person who answers the phone, both of those problems disappear.
The one exception is a physically destroyed drive that needs a clean-room lab. That genuinely cannot be done on a bench, so I refer it to a specialist at no markup, and I tell you so up front instead of charging you to find out.
How much does computer repair cost, coming from Vernon?
The same as it costs anyone else: a flat $40 diagnostic that comes off your bill when you go ahead, then $60 an hour, with most repairs landing between $60 and $150 all in. There is no travel surcharge and no out-of-town rate.
Common jobs have flat starting prices so you are not watching a meter: virus and malware removal from $69, a tune-up from $59, a Windows reinstall from $89, an SSD or memory upgrade from $49 plus the part, a screen replacement from $99 plus the panel, and data recovery typically $120 all in.
Because the drive is real, I would rather you know whether it is worth making before you make it. Phone me and describe what the machine is doing. If it sounds like something simple, I will tell you, and I will tell you if I think a closer shop can handle it.
Can I drop off outside normal hours?
That is what booking a time is for. Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, but if the drive from Vernon only works early, late or around a shift, say so when you book online or when you call (604) 817-1069, and we will find something that fits.
Making someone drive twenty-five minutes to a locked door is not how I want to run this. The whole point of appointment-based drop-off is that the time is agreed before you get in the car.
It also means one trip instead of three. You drop the machine off once, I phone you the same day with the diagnosis and a firm price, you approve it over the phone, and you come back once to collect it repaired. There is no trip to get quoted and another to authorise the work.
Do you cover Coldstream, Lumby and the rest of the North Okanagan?
Yes. Coldstream, Lavington, Okanagan Landing, Bella Vista, East Hill, Predator Ridge and out toward Lumby and Kalamalka Lake are all within what I serve, and Coldstream has its own page if that is where you are.
Out that way the drive is longer again, so booking ahead matters more, not less. Everything is arranged around making one trip count.
My computer is old. Is it worth repairing or should I just replace it?
More often worth repairing than a store will tell you, and this comes up constantly with machines out of Vernon and the rural North Okanagan: family desktops that have been going a decade, laptops on connections that were never fast, farm and acreage office machines being asked to last another season.
The single biggest speed improvement available on most older computers is a solid-state drive, from $49 plus the cost of the drive. On a machine that takes five minutes to boot, that one change frequently makes it feel new, for a fraction of the cost of replacing it. Adding memory is the other cheap win.
The $40 diagnostic exists to tell you which side of that line your machine is on. And if it genuinely is not worth fixing, you will hear that from me. That answer is part of the diagnostic you already paid for, and it saves you putting $200 of labour into something with a year left in it.
My internet is slow out here. Can you help with that?
I can rule out the computer, and that is worth doing before you spend an afternoon arguing with an internet provider. A machine bogged down with junk software, a failing drive, or a wireless adapter on its way out looks exactly like a slow connection from the outside: same symptoms, completely different cause.
What I cannot do is change what is available at your address. If the line into the property is the bottleneck, I will tell you that plainly rather than sell you a tune-up that will not fix it.
Vernon has never had many good options. The usual choice is a place that ships your computer out to somewhere else entirely, or the drive down to Kelowna with a big-box counter at the end of it. Both mean handing your machine to someone whose name you never learn.
