How much does computer repair cost?

Most repairs land between $60 and $150 all in. It starts with a flat $40 diagnostic that tells you exactly what is wrong — and that $40 comes off your bill the moment you go ahead with the work. Labour after that is $60 an hour, and the common jobs have flat starting prices you can read below.

You get the whole price before any work starts, never after. If I find something I did not expect, I stop and phone you rather than adding it to the bill. Every repair carries a 30-day warranty on the work.

Where every repair starts
$40flat

I find out exactly what is wrong and give you an honest, firm price. The $40 is credited straight to your bill when you go ahead with the repair.

A big-box counter charges around $100 just to look, and keeps it. Mine comes back to you.

Why it isn’t free

A free diagnosis is paid for somewhere, and it is almost always inside the repair quote. Charging for it separately is how the quote stays honest.

It buys you an answer you can act on — including "this is not worth fixing", which a shop recovering the cost of a free diagnosis has no reason to tell you.

If you decide not to go ahead, you have paid $40 for the truth and you owe nothing else. No pressure, no restocking fee, no runaround.

Every price, in one place.

Flat starting prices for the common jobs, $60 an hour for anything custom. Parts are charged at what they cost to buy for your machine.

Diagnostic

$40 flat

I find out exactly what is wrong and give you a firm price before any work starts. The $40 comes off your bill when you go ahead with the repair.

Labour rate

$60 / hour

For custom work that does not fit a flat rate. Quoted as a total before I start, not billed open-ended.

A hand-done deep clean, not a one-click scan. Includes checking what the infection touched and how it got in.

Startup cleanup, dust and thermal fixes, and an honest answer on whether an SSD is the real fix.

Files backed up first, a clean install, then drivers and your programs configured so it actually works when you get it home.

SSD or memory upgrade

from $49 + parts

Labour from $49, plus the cost of the drive or memory. On most older machines this is the single biggest speed improvement available.

Labour from $99, plus the panel. I price the panel for your exact model and tell you the total before ordering.

Data recovery

$120 typical, all in

Typical recovery is about two hours at $120 total, including the $40 assessment. Assessment only, with no recovery, is $40. Drives needing a clean room are referred out at no markup.

Laptop repair

quoted after diagnosis

Batteries, hinges, charging ports, and no-power or no-boot faults. Priced once I know which of those it actually is.

Custom PC build

quoted to your budget

You set the budget, I spec every part to it, then build and test it. Labour is quoted with the parts list so you see both.

Prices are in Canadian dollars and apply across Lake Country, Kelowna, Vernon, West Kelowna and Coldstream. Your exact total is confirmed after the $40 diagnostic and before any work begins.

Things I don't charge for.

A five-minute fix

If it turns out to be a loose cable or a setting, I tell you and you go home. I am not writing an invoice for that.

Telling you not to bother

If the honest answer is that your machine is not worth repairing, that answer is part of the diagnostic you already paid for.

A quote

Asking what something would cost is free, on the phone or by email. The $40 is for opening the machine and finding out for certain.

A markup on parts

Parts cost you what they cost me to buy for your machine. I make my money on the labour, which is the part I actually did.

Pricing, answered.

How much does computer repair cost in Lake Country?
Most repairs land between $60 and $150 all in. It starts with a flat $40 diagnostic that tells you exactly what is wrong, and that $40 comes off your bill when you go ahead. Labour after that is $60 an hour, and common jobs have flat starting prices: virus removal from $69, a tune-up from $59, a Windows reinstall from $89, an SSD upgrade from $49 plus the drive. You get the full price before any work starts, never after.
Why do you charge for a diagnostic when other shops advertise it free?
Because a free diagnosis is paid for somewhere, and usually that is in the repair quote. Mine is $40, it is credited to the repair, and it buys you a real answer you can act on — including "this is not worth fixing", which a shop that needs the repair to recover its free diagnosis has no reason to tell you. If you decide not to go ahead, you have paid $40 for the truth and you owe nothing else.
Is that cheaper than a big-box store?
Usually by $50 to $150 on the same job. The big chains around Kelowna charge roughly $100 just to look at the machine, and they keep it. Mine is $40 and it comes off the bill. There is also no membership to buy and no upsell quota behind the counter.
Can the price change once you have started?
Not without you agreeing to it first. The number I give you after the diagnostic is the number you pay. If I open a machine and find a second, unrelated fault, I stop and phone you with what it is and what it would add. You decide. Nothing gets done and billed after the fact.
What if a part is needed?
I call you, tell you plainly which part it needs and why, and give you the part cost on top of the labour. Only then do I order it. Parts are charged at what they cost me to buy for your machine, so there is no markup hidden in the total.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes — 30 days on the work I perform. If the thing I fixed goes wrong again in that window, bring it back and I sort it out at no charge. Parts carry whatever warranty the manufacturer gives them, and I tell you what that is at the time.
How do I pay?
Cash, debit, credit card or e-transfer, whichever is easiest, and payment is due when you pick the machine up — not up front. No deposit is needed to book a drop-off time.
