A cracked, black, or flickering laptop screen is one of the most common repairs I do in Lake Country — and almost always the first question is "what is this going to cost me?" The honest answer is that it depends on the laptop, but you do not need to guess. Here is how the pricing actually works.
What goes into the cost
A laptop screen replacement is two things: the replacement panel itself, plus the labour to fit it. The panel is the bigger variable — a screen for a standard everyday laptop costs far less than a high-resolution touch screen or a panel for a slim premium ultrabook or MacBook. Labour is flat-rate, so there are no surprise hourly charges.
What makes a screen more or less expensive
- Screen size and resolution — a basic HD panel is cheaper than a 4K or high-refresh one
- Touchscreen vs non-touch — touch panels cost more and are more involved to replace
- Premium ultrabooks and MacBooks — thinner, glued assemblies cost more in both parts and labour
- Whether only the glass is cracked or the display underneath is damaged too
Is it worth replacing the screen?
Usually yes. If the rest of the laptop runs well and it is under about five years old, a screen replacement is almost always cheaper than a new machine — and you keep all your files and setup. The exception is a very old or already-struggling laptop, where the screen cost approaches the value of the whole machine. I will always tell you honestly which side of that line yours falls on.
Get a real quote first
I do not believe in quoting a screen blind off a phone call — the price depends on the exact panel your laptop needs. Bring it by, and the $40 diagnostic (credited to the repair) gets you an exact, all-in quote before any work starts. I serve Lake Country, Kelowna and Vernon. Call or text (604) 817-1069.
